A day out in London, The Changing of the Guards

When we went to London last summer we decided to take the boys to see the changing of the guards. It is something they have never seen before. We were lucky as it was a beautiful hot day, we arrived about 10 minutes before the start, however I would advise anyone planning to go to get there about half an hour before, as it was very busy.

We tried to get near to the palace to see into the grounds but there was no chance it was just too busy. So we found a spot near the railings just at the foot of the Mall. We had to wait for a while to see anything but could hear the band playing. Then thankfully the guards appeared and marched past us. It really was a great sight and the boys were mesmerized as they marched from the palace down the mall towards horse guards’ parade.

We decided to walk behind the procession and followed them down to horse guards’ where the boys were able to get their photograph taken with a guard on a horse.

I think as I have grown up, and as much as I love London. I had forgotten how amazing it is to see it for the first time.

The boys have been to London many times but never seen the changing of the guards. This really is something ever child should get to see. We were so lucky the weather was fantastic, and we enjoyed one of the things that is so great about Britain on a beautiful hot sunny day.

  2. It is a great spectacle and one which still has my kids captivated when we go up too. they always have to walk up to the guards and see if they can make them smile! Looks like a wonderful sunny day for your visit and the biggest smiles on your boys faces. thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.
