Last year we took a trip to Alnwick to
visit Alnwick Castle and Gardens; this is where
Harry Potter was originally filmed. Living with all boys they love a castle,
and I must say we had a fantastic time. I was going to write a post about the Gardens and Tree house restaurant but realised they are all sooo amazing that they deserved posts of their very own.
A Castle and Garden Family ticket is £61.75, and we were lucky enough that there was an offer to upgrade to an annual pass for free, so we were able to hop in and out for the week we stayed in Alnwick.
The Castle is fantastic, there are Harry
Potter tours going on at intervals throughout the day, these showed you where
filming took place etc, there was even a lookalike Hagrid and Harry. And
Joe's favorite; broomstick training, this trains budding wizards how to fly a
broomstick in the exact spot that Harry himself learnt to fly. I think Joe
thought he would actually learn to fly! It was hilarious the men that ran the
activity were so funny and completely engaged the whole audience.
We were able to have archery lessons, now
it seems Jacks is a bit of a budding Robin Hood so he loved this, we all had a
go, I found out archery is not my forte. Then of course spent the rest of
the break being told how great Chris and Jack were. Unfortunately Joe was to
young to take part but enjoyed watching and cheering me on.
Joe took part in Knight school, this is the cutest little area where younger children get to make wands, fight dragons and even dress up. At the end they get a certificate to confirm they are now qualified knights.
At intervals throughout the day there were jugglers performing, I wasn't keen on watching this but the boys insisted, however they were excellent and at one point; even juggled fire. They turned out to be very funny and entertaining.
Then of course there is the actual Castle, it was very interesting to look around and read about the history of Alnwick Castle. The Castle offers history on a grand scale; it is one of the largest inhabited castles in Europe and has been home to the Duke of Northumberland’s family, the Percy's for over 700 years. For more info see the Website. We had a fantastic couple of days at the castle there was so much to see and do. I would definitely recommend this as a fantastic family day out.
We love Alnwick castle and are regular vistors as it's not too far from us - We love dragon quest (although a bit scary!) #countrykids
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day out, I love that they give you broomstick flying lessons. It's great to see that there was plenty of activites for kids and everyone running them were engaging and entertaining, some places you go to have uninterested staff and it makes the trip worse. It looks like a brilliant time and the kids all enjoyed themselves. Thanks for linking up with Country Kids
ReplyDeleteMy husband has got this awesome archery kit and I always want to try them after being addicted to The Walking Dead. I wish we can visit this place but I reckon its too far! Thanks for sharing the photos of your amazing trip there. #countrykids
