When I was given Up For The Cup by Simon Bartram by
the lovely people from the Mumsnet Book Club, I was over the moon. Hoorah, my first book club
review. I eagerly awaited Joe to come home from School to read the book with
me. But as soon as he saw the book, which I was sure he would love. He stated,
" It's not really my type of book, " I am sorry, I just don't get
this. I love reading and would read almost any book. The problem is he likes
football but is not a die-hard fan.
Then I realised what I needed was a die-hard footy
fan, who would love the book rather than forcing Joe to read it. So I enlisted
Finlay the footy mad fan, he lives and breathes football I realised he was the
perfect choice for this mission.
Finlay's verdict on; Up for the cup.
He really enjoyed the book and loved the story; he
loved the illustration and the fact that you had to search for characters
throughout the pages. Fin also loved the fun facts although said they could not
all be true; as one player could not dribble around 1,973 cones.
Julio Poom was a great name for the main character
as it stuck in his head.
She thought the book had lots of great features i.e.
facts, search the character, and good illustrations, to keep the book interesting and interactive. The
story was just the right length. And Ruth
liked the fact; that there were a few stretching and challenging words that Fin
did not understand the meaning of. This
made him question and discuss the meanings.
Overall Ruth and Fin gave the book 4/5
Thank you Fin and Ruth for taking on the mission.
