Ladies Day Playing Golf

Yesterday we were so lucky that our college paid for us to have a golf lesson, yes in works time, its great isn’t it. It is part of an initiative called health and well being day. At the end of every academic year college hosts an event, where you can get involved in a host of activities. This year the offering was fantastic; I wanted to choose all of them, there was archery, climbing, golf, massages walking and running. They then round up the day with a staff BBQ and live music. We decided as a team to try golf. I have been to the driving range but was rubbish, and as Chris and Jack occasionally play I would like to improve so I can play when they play.

So off Lisa, Louse, Annette, Claire and myself went with 26 others from college to Marsden Park Golf Course. It was chaos at first; there was a mix of expert golfers right down to complete novices like myself. Then experience golfers met and went off on their own a bit sharpish, I think to save their street cred from all of us giddy novices.

The rest of us were split into two groups where we had two lessons one of the driving range, one on the putting green. We were told which irons to use and when to use them, how to score. (I don't really get that though if I am honest) I actually learnt quite a few tips and tricks, mainly how to hit the ball; yes I have always struggled with that! The last time I went to the driving range with Chris and the Boys, I gave up in the end as I struggled hitting the ball. Well, watch out Chris, Jack and Joe I can now hit a golf ball.

After the tuition we headed out to play 1 hole, we could have done more but there were 8 of us, spread over 2 groups, so it took ages. Once of the course I could not believe what a relaxing sport it was. The views were breathtaking over Pendle; of course we were incredibly lucky that it was a glorious day.

I must say it was fantastic socialising with people from college I would not usually mix with, you get to know people so much better on days like this. I think all of us ladies picked up Golf relatively well. Of the 8 of us that went up on the course, no one was silly and giddy and really got into the spirit of the game. All aided by our wonderful golf tutors Stuart, Pauline and Jason, who had so much patience and spent time with each and every one of us helping us improve our technique.
So thank you Nelson and Colne College, Marsden Golf Course, and all my lovely Golfing Buddies for a fantastic day.
