Pendle Pub Walk

I thought I would share some pictures from the Pub Walk we took part in on Saturday in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

The walk was organised by the Rotary Club, with all proceeds going to the Hospice and Rotary Charity. It is the first year Chris and I have taken part, but the sixth year the event has run. I must say it is a very slick, organized, outfit and a very easy process. We were lucky that Ruth registered us all online and then all the forms and instructions were sent through the post, with the t-shirts being available up to a week before the walk.

I will say the neck on my t-shirt felt far to tight, initially I was not going to wear it, but Ruth, Victoria and Louise persuaded me to try to customise it. I borrowed some scissors from the bar in the Bay Horse in Roughlee and we cut out the neck creating a little off the shoulder number, Ruth decided to do the same and we loved the look of our customised t-shirts.

The walk was a 13-mile walk that takes you through 6 Pendleside villages visiting 13 pubs along the way. Of course because of where we are located you also get to walk through some stunning countryside.

We were very fortunate that the weather was glorious. Ruth did the walk last year in torrential rain! We were so lucky this year.

Here we all are enjoying the sun at the Rising Sun in Blacko, and a very much needed cold glass of wine.

It was great that we were in such good company. We laughed so much and put the world to rights on our trek through the countryside. 

Ruth apparently had always fancied a part in the flake advert so decided to re enact it in a field of flowers.  Steve recorded it a played it back in slow motion. It was hilarious; the worrying thing is we had only had 2 glasses of wine at this point! 

When I talked to people throughout the day it was amazing  how many peoples lives have been touched by the hospice, I heard many stories of how wonderful the staff are, and how their support meant so much at such a difficult time.

The scenery was beautiful, I never get bored at looking at the stunning Lancashire views and today in the sunshine they were breathtaking.

Louise and Paul were doing the walk with friends, so we met up at intervals along the way. It was fantastic, 1000 people took part so we bumped into many people that we knew along the way. The atmosphere was amazing. Everybody was happy and enjoying the day thoroughly, every pub we visited was welcoming. It was a wonderful day where our community pulled together to achieve something great. It is amazing the positivity that can be achieved when people pull together for a cause. In fact it was so great that I am looking forward to next year already. We haven't got the official figure of how much was raised on the day, but what a fantastic way to raise money for a wonderful cause.
