The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

I thought I would share Our Edinburgh Tattoo experience today; I booked the tattoo under extreme duress, I just wasn't sure if it was really my cup of tea. However the boys adore the army, soldiers and castles so we knew they would absolutely love it. But wow, how wrong could I be, the whole event is just breath taking.

We were so lucky that the weather was glorious when we arrived in Edinburgh so we headed to TGI Fridays for a quick lunch had a wander on Princess Street. Then spent the afternoon sunbathing in the gorgeous park that surrounded the castle, it was so cosmopolitan, I had never visited Edinburgh before, I don't know what I expected but it wasn't this sunny, trendy, city with the most amazing atmosphere.

We were fortunate that the Edinburgh fringe festival was just about to start so there were street entertainers on most corners, as we  meandered up to the castle, we visited the occasional wine bar and stopped to watch the odd street performer. If our day had stopped there is would have been a fantastic day.

On arriving at the castle it struck me what a stunningly beautiful building if is with such an imposing presence on the skyline of the city. The entrance to the castle was just amazing, giving you a real sense of history when you entered.

I think the glorious evening made the whole event, it was a balmy summers evening not a cloud in the sky.

I got goose bumps when the marching bands started, to think that these men and women were all soldiers, that represent our country and keep us all safe, and secure. Yet here they were putting in the most amazing show. The talent was phenomenal, the way soldiers were able to march in perfect step whilst playing an instrument, and synchronizing moves to create a display, it was amazing.

There were regiments from counties all over the commonwealth involved. Stunning images were projected all over the castle to draw it into the show, which all concluded in a breathtaking firework display. I still to this day cannot believe the talent of these amazing people that serve our country. It really was something very special that evoked all sorts of emotions, at one stage I was even moved to tears.

So if you were ever thinking mmmm will I enjoy the Edinburgh Tattoo if you are patriotic, love our Queen, Army and a great show then put the tattoo on your list of must see events. I am so glad we went to the tattoo, I 100% want to go again, but next time spend longer in Edinburgh.
