I have an admission to make! When we checked into
the premier inn waterways at Stratford-Upon-Avon I had no intention of
reviewing it. You see I just thought, well it is a premier inn, and it does what
it says on the tin. Good clean rooms, great price with no frills. I am
eating my words, this little gem deserves every word of its review it was
fantastic. In fact we received better service here than we have in some 5 star
hotels on our travels.
We have stayed at the odd premier inn before and
always been happy with exceptionally clean rooms and a great price, so decided
to stay at the premier inn waterways after a stay here last year, on a fleeting
visit to Stratford-Upon-Avon, where I fell in love with this beautiful town.
Please forgive me for the lack of photos, fortunately I do have some, but as I
said had no intention of reviewing.
I booked about 10 months ago and got the amazing
price of £35.00 pounds a night, I know a bargain! I requested a room overlooking
the canal so the boys could watch the barges out of the window. (for the very
short time we would be in the room) When we arrived this had not been honoured. However I mentioned this to the man on the reception, who was most apologetic
and asked us if we were happy to wait half an hour and he would sort it. We
were happy with this so enjoyed a glass of wine whilst they sorted out room.
And true to his word in exactly 30 minutes our room overlooking the canal was
ready.
The hotel is set on the edge of town a 5-10 minute
walk into town; you have two options of routes. The first along the main road,
this takes you quickly into town. The second along the beautiful scenic canal path,
this leads you down to the River Avon, passing
pub gardens as you go. We loved the opportunity of taking a short walk, especially
along the canal as it really is beautiful. There is a premier inn in the centre
of town if you prefer not to walk.
It has a bar overlooking the canal and a lock, this
was wonderful as we sat and enjoyed a glass of wine, we were able to chat with
barge owners as they passed through the lock. The boys loved helping with the
lock, and the people we met had lots of interesting stories to tell. We have
decided we would like to try a barge holiday after talking to all these lovely
people. It seems such a great holiday option that the boys would thoroughly enjoy.
The rooms were spotlessly clean, and all the staff
we encountered was very friendly, even the chef at breakfast took the time to
ask what our plans were for the day. We asked for an ironing board on the first
day, it was at our room with 5 minutes.
One evening as the boys settled down into bed they
decide they would like a hot chocolate, last time we visited there was sachets
in the room. However there was none, so Jack got dressed and went down to
reception to ask for a couple of sachets. There was none, so the staff sent him
back with a cup of chocolate powder, then he realised he needed milk so off he
went again, this time when he returned the staff had made him two huge hot
chocolates with cream and marshmallows. The boys were over the moon, it is
amazing how such a small touch like taking the time to make that drink just
meant so much to the boys, they were thrilled.
So, would I recommend the premier inn waterways? Absolutely,
I am a girl built for luxury, and yes there may not have been a spa or swimming
pool here but we all loved staying. The location was great, the service was
exceptional, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.
Thank you premier inn you made our stay in Stratford-Upon-Avon special.
