When I started 100 happy days it seemed such a huge task. The rules were clear take a photo every, and celebrate the reason that photo makes you happy.
It all started with a tree; for
day 1 I took a photo of a tree on my road that I really love, and
from that day on I found the challenge easy. It's like I had walked
around with my eyes closed, not looking at the beauty of nature. And now here I
was looking for beauty and finding it everywhere I looked. 100 Happy Days followed winter through to summer, so it was easy to find inspiration.
The guidelines state that it is best to avoid the
materialistic things that
life has to offer. Now I have to admit I am a material girl. I like the finer
things in life, and do get excited by a nice new handbag. But I was determined
to celebrate the simple things.
My family and friends were
an excellent source to celebrate, and this task really made
me think about how lucky I am to have all these wonderful people around me, and
in my life. They have always been there and I have always appreciated them, but
100 happy days has helped me to celebrate them.
The simple things have taken on
new meaning, such as Chris making me a glass of wine after a stressful day,
spending time with the boys, walking Toby in the rain, and spending time with
friends and family.
So what have I learnt? It's the
little things, the simple things that matter. The sunset, lambs running in a
field, coming home to my family at the end of a day. And do you know what? The
material things are nice; in fact they are great. But If they were all taken
away tomorrow, my family and friends would still be here. The sun would still
shine, and we would still be happy. What is important is being happy, healthy
and appreciating what we have in life.
Thank you 100 Happy Days, I have
always been a happy person, but on those grumpy days you have made me look for
the good and the happy. There is so much to celebrate in life and you helped me
showcase that.
I am going to miss 100 happy days
so much, it has become a habit, hopefully the habit of looking for something
great to celebrate every day, will stay with me for the rest of my life. I
just won't be able to post it on the Internet, to share with others.
Although if I do see something exceptional, I might do the odd ‘this makes
me smile’ post.
